Study with objectives: 1) Are there differences in marbled murrelet occurrence between land management categories on the peninsula? Olympic National Park is surrounded by more intensely managed and fragmented lands. By comparing murrelet use on various land ownerships, we hope to draw some conclusions about effects of habitat modification on nesting murrelets. 2) Are there differences in marbled murrelet occurrence between developed and pristine areas in Olympic National Park? Since direct study of distubance effects on nesting murrelets is not practical, we hoped to make some inferences about the possible effects of disturbance based on differences in murrelet activity levels between developed sites that experience more management activity and pristine sites subjected to less disturbance.
