The first year (2000) of a three-year study in the GauleyRiver National Recreation Area (GRNRA) was used for reconnaissance todetermine the location of birds and mammals by biologists from MarshallUniversity and Concord College. Searches were conducted along the entirelength of the GRNRA examining aquatic and terrestrial habitat types in bothriparian and upland areas. Surveys for birds and mammals were conducted inrepresentative habitats in 2000.
