Fire as an important factor in determining the course of plant succession has been investigated by a number of workers. In the coniferous forests of the Lakes States, however, insufficient emphasis has been placed on the detailed study of fire as an ecological factor. . This paper is an interim report on a long-range study of the effects of wild and prescribed fires in northeastern Minnesota.
