Mammal inventories on selected national parks and monuments within the Northern Colorado Plateau Network were started in 2001. The goal was to begin to document 90% of the mammals that are suspected to occur on these park units. Data were gathered on 73 species representing 2104 individual captures, observations, or reports of species. Population numbers in 2001 seemed low, presumably related to recent low precipitation; this underscores the importance of multi-year studies of small mammals. Levels of documentation vary by park and by mammal group; recommendations are made for work in 2002, along with comments on the current species lists of mammals occurring on the parks.
