Surveys of the Sifford Lakes, Lassen Volcanic National Park

Demartini JD, Buttolph P, Newman S, Zachary S. 2000. Surveys of the Sifford Lakes, Lassen Volcanic National Park

Underwater videotaping of the lakes was done. Many invertebrates and water plants are identified. On July 23, 1996 and August 4, 1998, Stephen Newman (SN) videotaped from land, Phillip Buttolph (PB) was responsible for the diving operations and videotaping underwater, and John DeMartini (JD) was responsible for videotaping underwater and making anecdotal assessments of a given aquatic site. PB also assisted JD in assessments. Steve Zachary (SZ) coordinated activities and was a source of information on geological, biological, and historical aspects of LVNP. During 1996 and 1998, various lakes were quickly examined. Due to problems in identifying the placement of given lakes or ponds, on August 11, 1999, we attempted to ground-truth the position of given aquatic bodies. Even performing the latter, we were unable to place one lake videotaped underwater. therefore on Tuesday, July 25, 2000, SZ and JD returned to the Sifford Lakes to truth positions of given lakes. The following is an integration of information on given aquatic systems of the Sifford Lakes complex. The names and numbers of given lakes discussed below ere assigned during 2000 for this report.
