On January 25, 1935, while on ski patrol at Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah, the discovered convincing evidence that a female coyote had killed and eaten two porcupines within a lapse of less than three hours time. The author describes a 5 1/2 hour trek following one coyote (Canis latrans) over a five foot snowpack as it tracked, killed, and consumed two porcupines. The author found the area where the struggle took place, including skin, bones, and blood. He also noted coyote behavior that included marking the kill site with urine, feces, and by rolling in the snow.
