The Inventory and Monitoring Program is a means to prevent the loss or impairment of natural resources in the national park system. The report aims to collect and document a baseline inventory of biological and geophysical natural resources, develop a long-term monitoring system to show the status and trends of ecosystems at various spatial scales, apply Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to evaluate the management of natural resources, and help to coordinate inventory and monitoring practices with other agencies to avoid duplication.
