Vascular alpine plant distributions within the central and southern Rocky Mountains, USA

This study examined the distribution of vascular alpine plants along the Rocky Mountain Cordillera. The data was analyzed quantitatively through a combination of techniques involving the theory of island biogeography and floristic similarity. Results suggest (1) migration barriers have acted to selectively influence the composition of floras, (2) island size and distance to contributing gene sources are moderately correlated to species richness, (3) latitude best explains floristic similarity, and (4) stepwise regression models indicating variables of isolation help explain dissimilarities in flora.
