From May to September 2001, researchers surveyed for the presence of reptiles and amphibians in Bryce Canyon NP, Capitol Reef NP, Cedar Breaks, Fossil Butte NM, Golden Spike NHS, Pipe Spring NM, Timpanogos Cave NM, and Zion NP. Objectives were to provide a baseline inventory of herpetofauna in each park with the goal of documenting 90% of species present over two years of surveys; and to determine general abundance and distribution of species present, identifying park-specific species of special concern. Methods included Visual Encounter Surveys (VES); habitat-, time-, and area-constrained searches (TACs); and nighttime VES and night driving. Vouchers for every species, in the form of photographic slides, were collected at each park. Researchers conducted approximately 340 surveys, 23% of which were TACs. Approximately 2566 individual observations of reptiles and amphibians were made. Species lists for each park were generated, and maps showing TACS and species observations are provided.
