Initial Response of Moose to a Forest Fire in Northeastern Minnesota
Peek JM. 1974. Initial Response of Moose to a Forest Fire in Northeastern Minnesota. The American Midland Naturalist. 91(2):435-438
Density of moose in northeastern Minnesota increased from less than 0.5 per square mile prior to a large fire to over 2 per square mile two growing seasons following the fire. The increase was related to immigration, especially of yearlings, rather than to increased production and survival of calves.
