Peregrine Falcons (Falco peregrinus anatum) nesting along the upper Yukon River in Alaska have been the subject of numerous studies. In 1979, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service initiated a five year survey banding program for the Arctic and American Peregrine Falcon in Alaska. The upper Yukon River was one of the four areas selected for study because of the historical data available for this area. This paper reports on the 1983 study on the upper Yukon River. The objectives of this study were: 1. Locate territories occupied by peregrines; 2. Determine and monitor productivity and band young; 3. Determine age distribution, mortality and recruitment characteristics of the population; 4. Determine food habits; and 5. Assess pesticide contamination.
