Biodiversity has previously been considered too broad and vague to be applied to real-world regulatory and management problems.This can be corrected if biodiversity is recognized as an end in itself and if measurable indicators can be selected to assess the status of bidiversity over time. Noss uses a nested hierarchy series of four attributes of biodiversity to quantify biodiversity. Indicators of each attribute are identified for monitoring.
