There were 23 reports of black bears that were investigated during this segment. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel investigated 3 reports of black bears sighted in west Texas. Two were considered 'Valid (verified)' sightings and 1 'Invalid'. One bear reportedly sighted in east Texas was investigated by Department personnel and classified as 'Invalid'. Reports of 19 black bear sightings, sounds, and 'signs' were compiled by United States Department of Interior personnel at Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Big Bend National Park. The Guadalupe Mountains National Park reported 2 bear sightings and 2 observations of tracks at different locations. The Big Bend National Park reported 13 sightings of black bear, one observation of a track, and 1 bear was reportedly heard. Observations in both parks were classified as 'Valid (unverified).' The report of hearing a bear was disregarded.
