Boundary dynamics on Cumberland Island National Seashore
Mcpherson GR. 1988. Boundary dynamics on Cumberland Island National Seashore. CPSU Technical Report 49. National Park Service Cooperative Studies Unit, Institute of Ecology, University of Georgia. Athens, GA
An investigation into the role of disturbance (from fire and grazing) in controlling scrub/forest and marsh/forest boundaries on Cumberland Island. Includes a description of methodology (interpretation of aerial photographs, survey of vegetation and soils along boundaries, bioassay of soil fertility); results (correlation of marsh and scrub sizes with precipitation patterns, overstory vegetation changes, soil chemical characteristics); and conclusions.
