A new species of hypogeous fungi, named Brauniellula crassitunicata, is described from western North America. The phylogenetic line from Chroogomphus to the secotiaceous Gomphidiaceae is extended and the taxonomy of the secotioid species comprising this line is discussed. One of the specimens examined was collected in Great Basin National Park (listed on page 618 in the first paragraph - NEVADA, White Pine Co. Fogel F2712).
