In an effort to gain a more detailed knowledge of existing vegetative resources, Park personnel have recently implemented a three part program to obtain greater in-depth information. Previous studies of plant life have been conducted on a generalized basis for years. These, however, appear to have been void of plant community analysis and the role played by dominant, co-dominant, and important subspecies. Beginning in the summer of 1993, field work was intensified to 1)identify plant communities and develop a park vegetative map using air photos and by on-site quantitative studies; 2) collect plant specimens to update park flora; and 3)locate rare plant species and their habitats. From this work the most numerous of the rarest of species are noted. Several hundred plant species inhabit the park. Of these about 40 are considered as being prominent in given areas and 6 species are considered as rare. Most of these are discussed to some extent in this work.
