Caloric density preference studies of cave crickets, Hadenoecus subterraneus, were conducted during February 1988 in Marion Avenue, Sophy's Avenue, Frozen Niagara, and White Cave in Mammoth Cave National Park and in Walnut Hill Cave in an effort to understand the efficiency of food utilization. Study shows the ability of crickets to differentiate between foods of differing caloric density and shows optimal foraging by size and sex. This is a follow-up of earlier work done by Levy.
