An unusual vertebra collected at Dinosaur National Monument by the Carnegie Museum staff in the early 20th century is considered to represent a separate species and given the name Camarasaurus annae. Characteristics of the bone include an absence of pleurocoels on the vertebral centrum, and the presence of a low bifid neural spine with widely diverging branches.
