Cape Sable Sparrows Rediscovered on Cape Sable
Werner HW. 1971. Cape Sable Sparrows Rediscovered on Cape Sable. The Auk. 88(2):432
This historic account notes the finding in June 1970 of several rare Cape Sable Seaside Sparrows on Cape Sable in Everglades National Park. The sparrows disappeared from their restricted original breeding area in south Florida following a severe hurricane in 1935, and that population had been thought nearly or entirely extinct, leaving only a few survivors in the Ochopee area of Big Cypress.
