This Final Report covers the first year (1994-95) and second year (1995-96) of full-scale captive propagation of a federally-listed Endangered Species of butterfly, the Schaus Swallowtail, Papilio aristodemus ponce anus, at the University of Florida's Endangered Species Laboratory facilities in Gainesville, and the experimental reintroduction of these captive-reared individuals in spring 1995 and spring 1996 at a series of seven selected sites on the South Florida mainland and in the Florida Keys, locations which are included in the species' former range. The Report also covers the continued monitoring of the success of the spring 1995 and spring 1996 introductions at these sites. Overall, the captive propagation program for this endangered invertebrate species has been exceptionally successful, while the reintroductions have become established in the wild and are thriving as new wild populations, making this the first major successful large-scale reintroduction of captively-propagated endangered butterflies in North America.
