The interiors of two caves on Mammoth Cave National Park were much used by prehistoric peoples. Artifacts found within these caves tend to be of vegetable fibers, wood, plants or plant parts, desiccated ('mummified') human bodies, and animal remains. Stone artifacts occur but are rare. These items have been well preserved and carbon dated. This article concentrates on the carbon dating of soot found on the cave walls and ceilings in Salts Cave. Dating results are presented
