Site inspection (SI) for Port Angeles Combat Range. From the Executive Summary: "This report presents the results of an SI conducted at the Port Angeles Combat Range (PACR) FUDS property number F10WA0033, located 7 miles southeast of Port Angeles, Washington in Clallam Country. In early 1943, the 115th Cavalry Squadron (mechanized) requested that the land be leased in the area of Port Angeles, Washington for use as a combat range. The range was intended to be used for tactical firing problems and short-range known distance firing (200 to 300 yards). In April and May 1944, the range was declared excess and all leases and permits were canceled. ... The southern portion of the FUDS is located within the Olympic National Park. Rights-of-entry could not be obtained to conduct SI activities with the Olympic National Park. The areas within Olympic National Park where right of entry was not obtained are within the mountainous downrange Impact/Buffer Area. Lack of access to the Olympic National Park portion of the FUDS does not affect the conclusions of the SI."
