This study discusses plant cover around Soda Lake in California. The author looked at how environmental factors were related to the distribution of certain plant species. A 300 m transect line was run from the edge of Soda Lake in the California Mojave Desert to an adjacent alluvial fan. Cover of plants were measured along the transect along with slope, salinity, pH, percent silt, percent sand, percent rock, percent organics, water potential, soil temperatures, and soil surface reflectivity. Correlations were performed to see if any environmental factors were related to the distribution of any of the plant species. Salinity, slope, pH, percent sand and percent silt were found to partially determine plant distribution. It was also found that Larrea distribution was related to soil temperatures.
