The author studied the tents of the desert tent caterpillar Malacasoma californicum fragile on the almond bush Prunus fasiculatus. The temperatures of the tents were higher during the day than ambient temperatures. The caterpillars were observed foraging when the tent temperatures fell between 9.3 – 29.8°C.
