Cave entry and exit patterns of the cave cricket (Hadenoecus subterraneus)

Trogloxenes, which leave the cave to feed and/or reproduce, are subject to two very different environments. They must face both the relatively constant hypogean climate and the more highly variable epigean climate. This study uses an electric eye device to record cricket movement at a cave entrance, comparing this movement with epigean temperature, cloud cover and time of day. The study was conducted at the Violet City entrance of Mammoth Cave, KY during the months of October and February. Methods and materials are not specified, but are available upon request. Results are discussed.
