A report discussing the history of both natural and human factors that may have contributed to the sedimentation of Bolinas Bay.This is a supplement narrative to a series of overlay maps created of the region with the purpose of showing factors that may have contributed to the sedimentation of Bolinas Bay. The series of maps begins in the year 1900 and ends in 2000 with an interval of 25 years. This supplemental report was created when it was determined that this series of maps was not able to fully depict both natural and human-related factors that historically contributed to sedimentation. Natural factors that contribute to sedimentation include earthquakes, fires, storm events, and cliff and beach erosion. Human-related factors are identified as “Watershed Factors” in the report; these consist of the creation of roads, grazing, cultivation and dairying as well as logging. In addition to this, discussions of Easkoot Creek, Pine Gulch Creek, the introduction of Eucalyptus trees, and mining and oil operations are included among the Watershed Factors. The report also discusses how the hydrology of the Bay contributes to sedimentation through reclamation and seadrift development.
