Study of Marin Manzanita Population Distrubution

Swiecki T, Bernhardt E, Phytosphere Research. 2006. Study of Marin Manzanita Population Distrubution

This report is a summary of a project completed by Phytosphere Research Company to assess the condition of Arctostaphylos virgata (ARVI) populations previously mapped within Point Reyes National Seashore. This project also included survey of areas along the Bolinas Ridge and Randall Trails that had not been previously surveyed for ARVI populations. This report includes details of the survey methods, results and recommendations for further survey based on observations of favorable environments for ARVI establishment and growth. Among the recommendations the report also discusses two diseases that affect ARVI, Phytophthora cinnamomi and Phytophthora ramorum. These pathogens had been observed during survey on other species. There is a complete fields notes section and a comparative characteristics section which lists the differences among ARVI and other Manzanita species found in the area.
