Mining activity report / Solid minerals operations monitoring checklist

Sharrow. 1988. Mining activity report / Solid minerals operations monitoring checklist

No active mining related activities are found within Tuzigoot NM, but a privately-owned sand and gravel business operates intermittently in the channel of the Verde River about 1/2 mile downstream of the monument, with no known adverse impacts on park resources. The possibility of development of other nonfederal sand and gravel deposits within the Verde River channel exists. Dikes around the tailings ponds are maintained by Phelps Dodge, and the area is flooded periodically to reduce dust. Solid Minerals Operations Monitoring Checklists for the Phelps Dodge mill tailings and for potential sand and gravel operations in the Verde River, along with related maps, are included.
