This report summarizes the results from studies of vegetation history from multiple sites in Point Reyes National Seashore with the goal of determining the fire history of the area. This report summarizes the findings of studies completed to determine the fire history of Point Reyes National Seashore. The goal of sedimentary fire history studies in Point Reyes National Seashore is to document the long-term fire history of several vegetation types with enough spatial and temporal resolution to extend the reconstructions provided by historical records, ethnographic evidence and dendrochronological records. Such longer records allow an opportunity to investigate the relationship between periods of differing climate in the past and potential changes in disturbance regime. Perceptions gained from this research are important in understanding the legacy of past fires in present ecosystems as well as the role of fire disturbance in future climate changes.
