Eider Research: Eider Status and Trends
Hollmen T, Federer R, Wang S. 2009. Eider Research: Eider Status and Trends. Ocean Alaska Science and Learning Center
Developing methodologies to evaluate health, body condition, and dietary requirements in free ranging populations. The progress of the study is described in detail in two sections. Results from our studies on the development of SIA methodologies are described in the section “Quantifying diet to tissue isotopic (δ13C and δ15N) fractionation factors in captive spectacled eiders (Somateria fischeri): Implications for nutrient allocation and foraging studies”, and results from validation studies for QFASA are described in “Estimating diets of two species of threatened sea ducks, the Steller’s eider (Polysticta stelleri) and the spectacled eider (Somateria fischeri): Validation of novel diet assessment techniques”. A list of publications and presentations resulting from these studies is provided.
