This report summarizes progress in FY 1993, the second year of a 3 year inventory and monitoring project for northern spotted owls (Strix occidentalis caurina) in Olympic National Park (ONP). Three survey visits were made to each of 10 owl census plots in 3 sample strata: West side (4 plots), East side (4 plots), and High elevation (2 plots). A total area of 8,139 hectares (20,111 acres) was surveyed in 1993. Spotted owls were found in almost every census plot. ... Forty-six previously known ("historid") sites were visited at least once during the 1993 field season, spotted owls were found at 27 of these sites.
