The Bureau of Reclamation is beginning a multi-year geomorphic investigation on the Quinault River. Limited funding that was available in fiscal year 2002 has been spent on a time-lapse camera analysis and integrating with the Quinault Indian Nation (QIN) to develop a study plan geared toward sockeye restoration activities between Lake Quinault and the confluence of the North and East Forks (Forks) of the Quinault River. It has been requested by the Olympic National Park (ONP) Office in Port Angeles, WA that the Bureau provide thoughts on potential strategies for protecting the Graves Creek Road from a hydraulic and sedimentation perspective. This document is organized to first discuss the geomorphic characteristics of the river along the Graves Creek Road from the Graves Creek Campground downstream to the bridge, and then concludes with a geomorphic perspective on alternatives for the Graves Creek Road.
