The Harding Icefield Trail is the longest maintained trail in Kenai Fjords National Park and is a popular day trip for visitors. The trail continued to receive heavy visitor use during the 2008 summer field season at Kenai Fjords National Park. The summer was unusual in that snow persisted on the trail throughout the entire season. The persistent snow during the summer season created muddy conditions and required extra attention from Resource Management staff to protect vegetation and minimize impacts on the trail as the snow melted. Work continued on the reroute along the first half mile of the trail, including completion of blasting in September. No new exotic plant infestations were observed along the trail.
