Requesting GHCN/COOP, SNOTEL, Stream Gage, Snow Course and RAWS Stations for Data Acquisition, Compilation, Basic Quality Control, and Distribution
Frakes B. 2012. Requesting GHCN/COOP, SNOTEL, Stream Gage, Snow Course and RAWS Stations for Data Acquisition, Compilation, Basic Quality Control, and Distribution
This SOP documents the process for requesting station data from the primary climate/weather providers (NOAA Cooperative Network Weather Station, SNOTEL snow and weather stations, Snow Course, and RAWS) and one hydrologic data provider (USGS).For each requested station NRPC acquires and permanently stores original data values and associated data quality flags from the entire period of record for the following parameters:• Daily Minimum Temperature • Daily Maximum Temperature• Daily Precipitation• Daily Snowfall• Snow depth at observation time• Snow Water Equivalent• Mean Daily DischargeOnce a station has been requested, NRPC will, once a year, update data holdings for each requested station beginning the first week of September (no action required from the requesting unit). Therefore, new stations requiring processing, as well as stations no longer requiring processing, will need to be submitted no later than the last day of April. For each station update, NRPC will do a complete replacement of the entire period of record for each station. Basic station metadata will also be collected.
