This report deals with the effects of Hurricane Erin and Opal on the coastal ponds of the Gulf Islands National Seashore (GillS), specifically those of western Santa Rosa Island and the eastern tip ofPerdido Key, Florida. The numbers to used to designate the ponds in this study are same as those of Boyd, et al. (1995). The present study was conducted during October and November 1996, 12 and 13 months after Opal came ashore on 4 October 1995. In this report, we will compare and contrast our faunal observations made duringOctober-November 1995 on GUIS ponds 3,4,5, and 6 with those for the same ponds made by Boyd, et al. (1995) between August 1993 and June 1994. Data on an additional pond (3A) located just west of Pond 3 on Santa Rosa Island are also presented; this pond was not sampled during our earlier investigations ofthe Santa Rosa Island area. Relevant information for Santa Rosa (Ft. Pickens area) ponds 3, 3A, & 4, gathered during a concurrent study by Snyder, et al. (1997), is also compared and contrasted with our pre- and post-Hurricane Erin/Opal data. For cross-reference purposes, our ponds numbered 3 and 3A correspond respectively to ponds 1 and 3 of Snyder, et al. (1997). Our pond 3 is also the pond studied earlier by Hardy (1992).
