The Natchez Trace Parkway crosses through the states of Mississippi, Alabama andTennessee. The primary river systems contained in its course include the Mississippi andTennessee, but the Parkway also crosses through smaller portions of the Tombigbee andCumberland river drainages. Aquatic habitats include streams of all sizes, swamps, seepageareas, reservoirs and a portion of the Tennessee River mainstem. As expected, the fishbiodiversity in aquatic habitats along the Parkway is high: this study documents 101 speciesas present in the park and an additional 71 that are probably present within the Parkboundaries. Two federally listed fish species are present in the Park; one from Mississippi(bayou darter, federally threatened) and one from Alabama and Tennessee (slackwaterdarter, federally threatened).
