The purpose of this document was to develop an administrative record and valuable reference, a review of monitoring activity was undertaken in 5 natural resource management program areas: air resource management, fisheries, integrated pest management, vegetation, and wildlife. The natural resource management program at Shenandoah National Park grew considerably between 1978 and 1988. To develop an administrative record and valuable reference, a review of monitoring activity was undertaken in five natural resource management program areas. These areas include air resource management, fisheries, integrated pest management,vegetation, and wildlife.A separate chapter addresses each subject area by(1) presenting a synopsis of research efforts in rough chronological order, (2) identifying the management objectives, (3) reviewing the monitoring programs and presenting a chart or graph of the monitoring results or the parameters being monitored, and (4) discussing the relationship between monitoring data and management concerns.The author determined that, overall, the data collected in each program area adequately addresses management objectives. Recommendations on the future direction of natural resource monitoring in the park are presented in each chapter.A bibliography of literature (not cited in this document) that may be of interest to the reader is also included.
