Snakee are a large part of the amphibians and reptile fauna of the Park, being exceeded in number of species only by the seldom seen salamanders. There are seventeen species expected. Unless one is familiar with snakes in general, some difficultywill be experienced with identification, if some part of a snake isseen other than the head or tail. There are several harmless snakesthat more or less resemble either the Copperhead or the Rattlesnake.The 6orn, Milk, and Northern Water Snake have a blotched pattern orcrossbands. There are several snakes that are black, the Black Racer,and the Pilot Blacksnake. In addition, there are two snakes withblack phases, they are the Timber Rattlesnake and the Eastern HognosedSnake.
