This document is the main report in a report series that was prepared for the National Park Service (NPS), Air Resources Division, to assist the Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) national park units in the United States to evaluate their relative sensitivity to potential nutrient enrichment effects caused by atmospheric nitrogen deposition. Such effects can be caused by the addition of oxidized nitrogen (NOx) and/or reduced nitrogen (NHx) to natural ecosystems. The reports provide a preliminary overall risk assessment estimating the relative risk to parks and inventory & monitoring networks, of nutrient enrichment impacts from atmospheric nitrogen deposition. The main report provides background for the project, describes the assessment methods, and summarizes ranking results. It should be used in conjunction with each network report.
