This report summarizes monitoring results for the 2009 monitoring season. We provide park and region-wide abundance metrics for all species, and take note of the spatial distribution of species of conservation concern identified on a continental scale and a regional scale (for the Piedmont/Southeastern Coastal Plain region). We also provide a community-wide assessment of species composition (a “Bird Community Index” or BCI) that informs on ecosystem integrity by evaluating the relative composition of different guilds in the overall bird community.
