Recovery of a partial carapace of the wood turtle Clemmys insculpta (Le Conte) in a late Pleistocene cave deposit, Maury Co., Tennessee, is the first record of this species for the state. The former occurrence of this turtle, ca. 700 km SW of its present range, in cave strata that contained remains of boreal insectivores, small rodents and birds, suggests lower temperatures and a more saturated floodplain along the Duck River ca. 16,000-12,000 BP than exist today.
