The data provides resource managers a classification of the riverine and lacustrine wetlands in the Potomac Gorge. The Potomac Gorge is a 15-mile reach of the Potomac River within the urban Washington metropolitan area that is both heavily used for recreation and harbors unique and diverse wetland communities. The Potomac Gorge Site Conservation Plan (NPS and TNC, 2001), a joint effort between The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the National Park Service (NPS) identified the wetlands in the gorge as a conservation target and a data gap. To fill this data gap, TNC and NPS contracted Mangi Environmental Group to inventory, map, and characterize wetlands in the Potomac Gorge. This data set is the final product of this effort.
