This data provides the survey point locations where datasheets were taken for field characterized wetlands in the above project. The Potomac Gorge is a 15-mile reach of the Potomac River within the urban Washington metropolitan area that is both heavily used for recreation and harbors unique and diverse wetland communities. The Potomac Gorge Site Conservation Plan (NPS and TNC, 2001), a joint effort between The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the National Park Service (NPS) identified the wetlands in the gorge as a conservation target and a data gap. To fill this data gap, TNC and NPS contracted Mangi Environmental Group to inventory, map, and characterize wetlands in the Potomac Gorge. The inventory was conducted in two phases. Phase I consisted of preliminary desktop identification and mapping of wetlands using remote sensing of satellite imagery, ancillary GIS wetland indicator data, and field groundtruthing. Phase II consisted of field delineation, characterization, and GPS survey of each palustrine wetland identified under Phase I. This data set is the final product of this effort.
