Land managers increasingly find urban development creeping up to the borders of their protected areas, while exishng development becomes denser over time. This expansion of the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) can impact management policies and plans, requiring managers to become more aware of the conditions found in their surrounding communities The social and ecological implications of the changing boundaries that separate natural and human ecosystems at the WUI represent an increasing challenge for the management of protected areas (Fiek1 & Jensen. 2005). This report has been compiled In an effort 10 illustrate existing conditions and provide the managers of Big Thicket National Preserve (81TH) with various socio-eeonomic and demographic data that will assist in their future planning efforts.
