National Park Service staff monitored the presence of bacterial indicators of fecal contamination at 6 ocean beach locations within ASIS weekly from May 23 to September 6, 2005. Using guidelines developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), water samples were collected from high-use public bathing beaches, and analyzed for the presence of enterococci bacteria.
