An analysis of the sediment budget indicated an annual shortfall of approximately 145,000 cubic meters to Assateague Island due to jetties. A longterm sand management program was proposed to compensate for this shortfall. This document addresses effects that this project may have on piping plovers (Charadrius melodus) and seabeach amaranth (Amaranthus pumilus), both federally threatened species.
