This protocol describes methods for monitoring vegetation composition, structure, and function in the national parks of the Klamath Network. It is based on a sampling frame and approach pioneered by the Carolina Biological Survey, with efforts to link some of the forest sampling methods with the US Forest Service's Forest Inventory and Analysis Program. It is well suited for the vegetation of many broad western vegetation associations from wetland to subalpine vegetation types. Particular emphasis has been put on developing estimates of vascular plant species diversity for national park landscapes.
