Demography of Dispersal in Attwater's Pocket Gopher (Geomys attwateri)

Williams LR and Cmaeron GN. 1984. Demography of Dispersal in Attwater's Pocket Gopher (Geomys attwateri). Journal of Mammalogy. 65(1):67-75

Weekly dispersal by Attwater'spocket gophers (Geomys attwateri) averaged 5.8% of the resident population (range = 1 to 15%/week). Dispersers were primarily young (immature) individuals and intraspecific aggression likely influenced their emigration. Body mass of dispersers within the categories adult male, adult female, and young (sexes pooled) was significantly less than that of residents. Sex ratios of dispersing young and adults were not different from those of residents and reproductive activity of dispersing adults was the same as that of residents.
