A total of 77 stranded marine animals came ashore on Assateague Island National Seashore between the Ocean City inlet and the Maryland/Virginia state line from 2004-2007. 37 were sea turtles and 40 were marine mammals. From 1991 through 2007, the average number of animals stranding per year was 19 and the range was eight to 34 animals.
