)Executive Summary: We received 8 and 5 reliable cougar reports in Olympic National Park in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Of those 2 (2009) and 1 (2010) were encounters. There were no near attacks or attacks reported. These were the lowest numbers of reports received in the 18 years of record. It is unknown if these low numbers reflect trends in cougar populations or a decreasing percentage of cougar observations that are getting reported.
